Sleeplessness, exhaustion, confusion, dry mouth, headaches, muscle spasms, dizziness, constipation, hunger, thirst, dry skin, circles under the eyes, heart palpitations, and fevers. These are just some of the symptoms you may have if you are dehydrated.
While dehydration can sometimes be fatal, in most cases it isn’t incredibly serious. Regardless, it could be keeping you from being your best self. If you have been having any of the above symptoms, you might just be a little dehydrated! Wouldn’t it be comforting to know that your problems may be solved by simply drinking water? Let’s take a look at some of the causes of dehydration to help you better understand your symptoms.

#1. Sunshine
Have you ever been laying out at the beach, only to stand up and feel faint? Many people wonder how they could possibly be dizzy after resting for so long, but the sun takes a lot out of us. Even though you haven’t been exercising, your body has been working in overdrive to keep your temperature regulated, leaving you dehydrated and lightheaded!
#2: Low Carb Diets
Did you know that every day you are eating water? On average, a human eats about 3,496 liters of water a day, hidden inside our food. Yes, you read that number right! Low-carb diets are popular because they help people drop weight quickly – but what is actually happening is that they are losing water weight. Water is stored inside the body with carbs; eliminate the carbs, and you eliminate your body’s water storage system.
#3: Medication
Check the labels on your medication. Some prescription drugs work as a diuretic, pushing the bad out of your body through your urine. Other drugs have side effects like diarrhea or vomiting. All of these symptoms are very dehydrating, so be conscious of your water intake while you are using them.
#4: Stress
Prolonged stress can exhaust your adrenal glands. Because adrenal glands are also partially responsible for regulating body fluid levels, a tired gland can dry out the body.
#5: High Altitudes
Loads of people complain about dry, itchy skin after a long trip in an airplane. The reason? Dehydration (of course)! When we are high in the air, our bodies have to adjust to the new environment by breathing a little bit faster. Increased breathing means an increase of vapor being expelled from the body.
#6: Vitamins
They may be good for our health, but even vitamins can put us at risk of dehydration. Just like some prescription drugs, many vitamins use urine as a way to detox the body. The more you go to the bathroom, the less water you hold inside of you. If you are starting to take vitamins, be careful to drink extra water!
